Not the current generation - as John points out, 1962 was the last time the sense of territorial threat existed. So anyone 40 or under has very little chance of having any real historical memory about WW2 or the worst days of the Cold War. By the time I was old enough to remember, we were already fighting Third World proxy wars with someone else's kid in uniform and the impact carefully sanitized from our suburban neighborhood. Now we have a weird combination of that same protective shell coupled with rhetoric that Osama is going to get us at the local Dairy Queen if we don't stay vigilant.
