That is not my definition. My words about left of center apply to the membership of your thread. Most are left of center, i.e abortion, the war, who becomes a judge, increased taxes, "NSA spying", climate change, the border, education, etc. Their opinions or politics aren't my issue. I'm not into creating converts. If the majority of American opinion on most political issues is now "left" then you have kicked the center about 15-20% to the right of 50-50. I am thinking that you assume the polls are not skewed by the pollsters and by the various media who pays for the polls. Yesterday, I posted an example of how a question on the same subject can derive a totally different poll result.Meiers was shot down because she wasn't conservative enough, that was very clear. It wasn't middle America crying out to sink her, it was the party faithful. So there are no party faithful in middle America? They had no opinion about Meiers? Don't think so DB. Immigration is an issue where Bush does have majority support among the public. He just can't get his own party to accept such a radical "left of center" position. That would be me. His lack of aggressiveness disappoints. The Senate's various compromise plan(s) are simply nuts! The House is closer to reality. But if Bush represents the real political center, he somehow forgot to build a lasting majority to support his economic and foreign policies. Maybe those are just side issues when viewed from what some consider the "real center". IMO, he is closer to this country's political center than any potential democratic candidate. His unwillingness to use the veto to decrease spending is disappointing. Foreign policy?? Don't know where you are headed. I am far from convinced. What I see is a shrinking support base trying to accuse anyone against them of "not being in the mainstream". That tack doesn't work any longer. The next two elections will tell us whether your views are correct.Just ask middle America if they think the current conservative administration shares their values and wants to take the country in a direction they like. I have done that plus have personal experience of living in God's country. It's not exactly what you think. The numbers are out there in black and white. No comment.
