Yes, every single person who was not a Soviet spy. And I don't think McCarthy ever caught a real Soviet spy. Granted, there were a few, but that was the FBI and CIA's job. McCarthy was basically persecuting the entire cross-section of innocent Americans who were liberals, internationalists, peace-activists, free spirits and/or supported unions and worker's rights. He concentrated on artists especially. He hated artists. Thought they were all traitors for freely expressing themselves, even some of our greatest artists like Aaron Copeland and Pete Seeger.

Remember, before the Soviets perverted communism into a military dictatorship, it was just an benevolent Christian idealic idea after the Great Depression to share and share alike, just to be able to survive, and to free the middleclass from the yoke of the big robber baron class.

In its ideal sense, there is nothing wrong with communism whatsoever. But in practice, it never worked. It always turned into another form of tyranny and defeated itself. So in the 1930's-1940's, communism was actually a positive idea. But by the 1950's it had turned into something negative. McCarthy persecuted everyone who believed in the 30's-40's ideal, and that was not only wrong but just plain evil.

In effect, all tyrannies are equal and just as bad as each other, whether they are rightwing or leftwing. They are the same. And McCarthy wanted rightwing tyranny in the US.

Name one Soviet agent McCarthy ever caught.

McCarthy the big evil dishonest phony, one of the worst American citizens of all time, a real Benedict Arnold in drag.

The only people McCarthy ever persecuted were perfectly patriotic, honest, hardworking, ethical and anti-totalitarian Americans who just happened to care about freedom of speech, human rights, civil rights, the right to organize, peace on earth, talking to foreigners and fighting poverty. Way back then there was the remnant of a communist party, but it had nothing to do with the Soviet Union. It was a totally different thing, an innocent form that just happaned to have the same name.

By McCarthy's definition, tens of millions of Americans are now "communists". Maybe even a hundred million. McCarthy perped one of the biggest lies in US history and hopefully he has ended up in a very hot place in eternal hell.

One of many big lies of the rightwing these days is claiming people like Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and Aaron Copland were "communist" in the sense that they supported the Soviet dictatorship. Nothing could be further from the truth. They were better more patriotic Americans than McCarthy ever was, much better. Instead, it was McCarthy who was trying to turn the US into a dictatorship. And he almost succeeded by concocting his big lie to try and strangle democracy and free speech in this country.

Let this be a lesson to current rightwingers who feel romantic about rightwing dictatorships. McCarthy ended up abandoned by all and totally disgraced. He deserved life in prison. So when Anne Coulter tells you to admire McMarthy, throw a pie in her ugly face. She's almost as wicked anmd dishonest as McCarthy was.
