Justification is not necessary or a minimal requirement for existance of a society. Plus the Declaration of Independence was just to get the ball rolling. It was overtaken by events, most notably the Constitution. You'll notice that in the Declaration there was the necessity to overthrow an abusive government. There is a strong argument that the Federal Government is far more abusive than the Crown ever was, yet we are not encouraged by our Constitution to overthrow [or break the bonds] with the Federal Government. In fact, they can throw you in the slammer for that kind of action. To the extent that we abandon our cause we will suffer annihilation. That's pretty extreme. I'll have to ask what is "our cause"? I'm afraid you've crossed into one of my pet peeves. Undefined terms. It seems like everyone has their own definition of certain phrases, e.g., American values, our cause, what America stands for,....In fact, I would contend that people that throw out such phrases as "Americna values" intend to be vague. They like the listener to fill in whatever the listener thinks are American values and by merely sharing the phrase, hope the listener believes that they share those American values. At times it's done with negative implications, for example, the homosexual agenda . As in "We need to stop the homosexual agenda." With the non-thinking bigot at the other end saying. That's right, we need to stop the homosexual agenda. Let's stop them now before it's too late. I digress, what is "our cause"? jttmab
