Communism always gets corrupted because the party leaders, like any elite, take care of themselves and their cronies first. Plus, the people can't vote so they can't throw the bums out. So the people get mad the the party leaders crack down. And voila, you have a dictatorship. But in the beginning, the first dream of communism only meant "share and share alike", a very benevolent and Christian value. During the Great DEpression that's what we needed to keep the country from turning into Road Warrior. Unfortunately human nature almost corrupts it such innocent ideals, and absolute power always absolutely corrupts. See Bush-Cheney after 9-11 with the whole country behind them. They had absolute power. They could have done anything, but what were their priorities?
