So, Russia had big problems. "Big problems" is an interesting euphemism. They killed more people than the Holocaust, but I suppose the Nazi regime wasn't a horrible evil in your opinion, it was just a "big problem". Besides, I don't think that the news of massacres like that got around in the 1930's. The first man made famine started in 1921. ( ukrweekly.com ) Other abuses started as soon as the Soviet regime started. I don't think you need a bunch of high speed internet connections and blogs and video, to get the news about these things out before McCarthy's time.
