[edited] @Doug - transition
"
SC-->DC transition
the fact that 300mm wafers are already in use ramping 90nm production.
"

Of course, common knowlegde, but what have we have to ask
ourself? The crucial point for the next months and years to
come (also common knowlegde) is factory utilisation. AMD will
have HUGE additional wafer space with FAB36, also when it
comes first with 90nm. So I'm happy with DC transition just
because this eats space, otherwise we have to ask, how could
we sell 5-10Mio. MORE Semprons? Means, its not easy to sell this
HIGH ADDITIONAL!!! volume. Demand isn't there, thats all,
so we could ramp up volume "only" in synch with demand, means
more DC. Thats what AMD is doing. You know this too ...

Edit:
"
1S/2S will fall to Intel next month, performance-wise, with Woodcrest.
"

Are you sure? Seems like we disagree here ... so be my guest -
I will predict that AMD will gain share in 1/2P in Q3 and in
Q4 too - of course.

5 to 1 is silly as a figure for a transition in a very short time frame but as a figure for the change from current Fab 30 production to production on the new fab after the shrink its a reasonable figure. The new fab is ramping on 90nm but most of the chips AMD makes now are on the old fab with smaller wafers and 90nm, and the new fab will be converted to 65nm.

Of course the average cores per chip will increase, and even with other changes that increase density AMD won't be producing 5 times as many chips. Maybe 5 times as many cores.
