"The life expectancy of a 60 year old man in 1900 is greater than the life expectancy of a 60 year old man in 1971, and basically the same as a 60 year old man in the year 2000. What tends to be different is the cause of death. Whereas in 1900, a common cause of death is bacterial or viral infection, this will gradually be surpassed by death from "lifestyle" - cancer and heart disease."

100 years ago and before, disease is what killed most people. People's life spans were shorter and the farther back you go the shorter they were. In a compund fracture they had to amputate the limb for fear of gangrene.

You go to Africa you will see few old people. Disease. No culture or ancient medicines figured out disease. The reason I am skeptical about most home remedies that pretend supremecy over modern medicene.

The discovery of penicilin, antibiotics, vaccines, general disease mitigation and how the body works has lead to a huge increase in life spans. To thos who pay attention-lol.

The average NFL football player only lives to 55. the average sumo wrestler only lives to 39. The average Japanese woman lives to 83. The average american woman now lives to about 80.

Exercise, exercise, exercise, low fat diets, and lots of fish and vegetables and carbohydrates gives the long lives.

The Japanese eat rice three times a day garnished with fish and vegetables.

If the Japanese didn't eat so much soy sauce (very high stroke rate) they would live even longer.
