That article links to some other polls that tell me a lot about where the American center is nowadays Dale, I think you're drawing a lot of conclusions about centerdom lately that may be more wishful thinking that supportable. For example, his poll question. When people say they want something different, that doesn't necessarily mean more centered. There are lots of conservatives who want something different--something certifiably conservative, not centered. Or maybe they just want more competence, or more transparency, or less money sloshing. Different isn't just about moving left.
