Carter was hated at home, but we were loved and respected around the world. GB is a pariah. And for electing him we have fallen in the estimation of the world. And please don't trot out the Reagan brought down communism fantasy. Communism fell on it's own. It's like attributing the bull market of the late 90's to Clinton.

Reagan did not bring down the Soviet Union. His massive deficit defense spending was just one of a dozen reasons the SU fell, but the prime hero there was Gorbachev, and also, ironcially Osama and his Mujeheddin in Afghanistan which gave the Soviets a very bloody nose over there. Also, the Pope, Lech Walensa, rock n' roll, John Lennon, the Jews, the anti-nukes movement in Europe, the Germans, reformers in the Soviet Union and many-many other factors. IMHO if JFK had lived and served out two terms the Cold War could have ended in 1968. And we'd have avoided the Vietnam War as well. But we'll never know since the rightwing murdered him. btw: Let's hope we don't end up with a bloody nose in Afghanistan as well. Things are deteriorating fast in Afghanistan. Mainly because Bush took his eye off the ball and abandoned the real war against real terrorists.
