14:28 TASR TASER: Color on Bestex claims - Merriman (7.69 -0.88) -Update-

Merriman believes that press releasees from Bestex are the main reason for the 16% decline in TASR shares over the past two days. According to TASER management, Bestex is claiming the rights to a patent that the courts have already ruled resides with TASR. Because Bestex continued to manufacture product under that patent, causing confusion in the marketplace, TASR management felt the need to file subsequent lawsuit. Firm says that when TASR acquired TaserTron and the patent, the license held by Bestex lapsed and that co was only allowed to sell product from inventory that was manufactured prior to July 2002. Firm has no reason to question their 2Q estimates of $15.8 mln in revs and $0.02 in EPS. Firm believed that 2Q would represent the first quarter where order trends for TASR really start to accelerate once the S.E.C. investigation was resolved and they have begun to witness that trend. In addition to the orders mentioned above, firm still believes orders from the L.A. police department, C.A. Highway Patrol, France, and the Houston police department could surface in the coming months.
