JDSU Selected by Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for Gigabit Ethernet Testing
Thursday May 18, 8:30 am ET

MILPITAS, Calif., May 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- JDSU (Nasdaq: JDSU - News; TSX: JDU - News) today announced its T-BERD/MTS-8000 optical test platform has been selected by Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the nation's largest public power producer. The JDSU T-BERD 8000, one of the industry's most innovative test solutions for the installation and maintenance of next generation networks, enables customers in the enterprise and telecommunications industry to ensure the reliable delivery of high-bandwidth DWDM and Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) services.

TVA will use the T-BERD 8000 to support OC-192, OC-48 and GigE services over its "Power WAN" DWDM network. The capabilities of the T-BERD 8000 include transport testing and optical spectrum analysis. The lightweight, scaleable design of the T-BERD 8000 enables customers to quickly and reliably increase the capabilities of their test equipment based on changing network requirements.

"Enterprise customers are rapidly scaling their networks to GigE performance levels, and our customers are meeting and exceeding those high quality-of-service bandwidth demands," said Jerry Gentile, general manager of JDSU's Telecommunication Field Services (TFS) Test and Measurement group. "The T-BERD/MTS-8000 enables the rapid and cost-effective deployment of this new technology and we look forward to working with TVA to ensure the quality, flexibility and continued innovation of its services."

Included in the purchase is the T-BERD/MTS-8000 Transport Module. The module is the first integrated field solution for Ethernet, SONET, SDH, PDH T-carrier networks, and IP layer services up to 10GigE rates. By integrating these technologies in one module, network operators can invest in an all-in-one product that enables the efficient turn up of revenue generating services with one compact platform. The module also continues the heritage of the T-BERD and MTS-8000 product line as the industry's most compact and cost-effective solution for optical network testing by combining test capability for 1.5Mb/s to 10Gb/s transmission services in an all-in-one product.

Also included is the T-BERD/MTS-8000 Optical Spectrum Analysis (OSA) Module. For maintenance and troubleshooting of high performance DWDM networks, test instruments like optical spectrum analyzers are essential for measuring optical parameters and for extracting single optical channels out of a DWDM signal for further analysis.

About JDSU's T-BERD/MTS Optical Testers

Combining multiple test capabilities with unprecedented levels of field modularity, JDSU's T-BERD/MTS-8000 is a scalable field platform for provisioning and maintaining short-haul, long-haul, FTTx, Metro, CWDM, transport, data and DWDM networks. Advanced modularity enables the T-BERD/MTS-8000 to integrate options for video microscope, VFL, light source, power meter, and optical talk set with application modules for SONET, SDH, Ethernet, multi-mode and single mode OTDRs, PMD, spectral attenuation, CD, WDM, and single-port and dual-port OSA. Compatibility with more than 10,000 field-proven units already deployed worldwide by every major telecommunications network operator enables easy migration to new network technologies while continuing to reduce expenses.
