Nice analysis, Russ, so how would you position yourself for this sea change? Gold as an inflation hedge? Short bonds? It's hard to figure how to make money and it seems that most all markets are heading for a fall.

because China can no longer produce goods below their true cost (when properly accounting for negative externalities like pollution and bad loans).

my feeling is that while China may eventually pay lip service to pollution controls through some half-assed bandaid policies, they will NEVER properly account for environmental externalities. one of the tenets of Asian mercantilism as developed by Japan is that economics trump the environment. Japan has terrible environmental controls, literally on par with Mexico's. and Japan is the most advanced manufacturing economy in the world. China and Korea are simply copying Japan. in the case of China, it looks a lot worse simply because they are so big and so far behind. the "pirate ship economy" is here to stay.
