That is likely the case.

They probably burned through most, if not all finished goods in Q305 and Q405, the extra production came from somewhere. They would have built up a little in Q106, but sales weren't that much less than in Q406 and Fab36 production was still at a low rate. This quarter, Fab36 will be producing more and the first wafers from Chartered are due. That should build up inventory of finished goods to a healthy level by the time it is needed.

Inventory will be carried at the lower of cost or value. In AMD's case, cost is much lower than value - the realizable selling cost. Your analysis was correct.
