You should have been there. Elmer was claiming that because AMD hadn't had a "big tent" party yet, there was no way they had taped out. Then, there was the demo...

Elmer never did come up with an explanation of how they could have done that without taping out.

And we always get variants of the same argument. "AMD hasn't waved wafers/shown SRAMs/had a press conference announcing tapeout/show a die micrograph/had a public demo/etc. therefore they couldn't have achieved X milestone. Always ignoring the fact that, in the past, they rarely did that either.
