Several factors point to a behind the curtains talks and settlement: The US doesn't think the U.N. is the best forum to solve the Iran problem. China and Russia want to capitalize in the situation and let the US be weakened by a strike on Iran. The US knows that it can't stop the India gas pipeline which will bring a lot fo money to Iran. The US knows that if high oil prices continue is bad for the economy leading to high inflation, high interest rates and stagnation may hit the economy.
