The will of the people and self determination should be based on some reasonable grounds (imo), rather than on some idea of keeping the borders solid just to keep the borders solid. Sovereignty for sovereignty's sake, in other words, makes no sense at all to me. In order to decide it's important you need to say why it is important- and to say why it is important you need to know what the risks are if you don't make something (like the border) a priority, and you need to know what the impacts are going to be if you do change things. That's what I am saying. I am completely unclear on what you don't agree with in that.
