The only reason the smearvets campaign partly worked despite being total nonsense, was that the mainstream media were hoodwinked into covering it by the rightwing media and the constant smearvet ads. It took about a month for credible journalists to fully investigate all the charges. They all found them to be fabrications, baseless, wild exaggerations, contradictions or just plain stupid lies. So next time the press won't touch those old smears with a twenty foot pole. They have learned their lesson. Also, never blame the victim of a smear campaign. That just rewards the un-American bastards who did the smearing.
