Discovery Partners International, Inc. Enters Into a License and Development Agreement With Mimotopes Pty. Ltd. and Expands Distribution of IRORI Combinatorial Chemistry Products

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Discovery Partners International, Inc. (Nasdaq: DPII) and Mimotopes Pty. Ltd., a subsidiary of Fisher Scientific International Inc. (NYSE: FSH), announced today that they have entered into a multi-year agreement under which Discovery Partners will license to Mimotopes certain of it's intellectual property rights and will appoint Mimotopes as a non-exclusive, world-wide distributor of certain products in Discovery Partners' IRORI combinatorial chemistry instruments product line. Financial terms of the arrangements were not released.

Discovery Partners' intellectual property rights that have been licensed to Mimotopes relate to Discovery Partners' patented use of radio frequency (RF) tagging for chemical synthesis. The IRORI products to be distributed by Mimotopes will include the AccuTag-100(TM) Scanning System. As part of the agreement, Mimotopes will develop and commercialize, by the end of this year, a new grafted solid-phase product, to augment its SynPhase(TM) Lantern product line, which will be compatible with the DPI/IRORI AccuTag-100 Scanning System and the DPI/IRORI AutoSort-10K Sorting System.

"One of the primary benefits of this arrangement is that users of Mimotopes' SynPhase(TM) Lantern technology will now gain access to the automated RF sorting technologies available from Discovery Partners," stated John Lillig, Chief Technology Officer of Discovery Partners. This agreement also settles, for the licensed products, any potential Mimotopes patent infringements of Discovery Partners' patent rights that might have previously existed. "Settling any potential claims was very important for the market place," stated Andrew Milner, Managing Director of Mimotopes. "We are excited to be working with DPI/IRORI in the development of our new automation compatible lantern product, the SynPhase(TM) A-series Lantern with a full range of chemical linkers, as well as becoming a distributor of the DPI/IRORI AccuTag-100(TM). We firmly believe that this arrangement will benefit both companies and more importantly our customers."
