THe Germans put barbed wire around their POW camps. The had guard towers and swhort perimeters to guard instead of thousands of miles. They had armed patrols walking those perimeters. Still there were many POW escapes.

Anyone who thinks they can solve this problem with a fence isn't thinking. They already found many dozens of tunnels under the border. Fences won't stop those.
