Is it possible that there is no K8 shrink and the first thing AMD will be introducing on 65nm is K8L? We have read rumors on timing of 65nm introduction. That would mke K8L earlier than everybody is expecting...

Maybe. Maybe AMD had first silicon 65nm DC K8L very early this year but not QC K8L first silicon until very recently. They may have wanted to wait for both until making a splash in June. We will know soon enough.

K8L has a number of complex changes. So there is some risks. AMD has enough resources to pursue both a dumb shrink and K8L. It is even possible that both become products. A dumb shrink with the denser cache would be a good low to mid-range product where absolute performance isn't as important. In addition, it would be a good choice for Turion, given that power consumption will be lower than a K8L Turion. K8L would be aimed at the performance and server/workstation market. Possibly with a version for performance notebooks. So if they have first silicon, or at least are close, and need no more than one respin, then K8L could be a product at the first of the year. If not, then the fallback is the dumb shrink. I guess they are figuring that out now and will tell us come June.
