And that is yet another reason why I think there is a chance we could see both. A dumb shrink isn't a clearly inferior chip. Yes, it gives up some performance on certain types of work loads. But for most people, it would be just fine, with the added bonus of lower power. It would be smaller, and hence, cheaper. So there isn't any real reason for it not to exist except for engineering resources and having extra mask sets. But they have the resources and a pressing need, namely to reduce the risk of what is a new architecture.

It allows them to try to pull in K8L, but if that doesn't work they have a fallback. If it does work, then they have a decent segmentation. The confusion and mixed signals over the roadmap is because AMD doesn't know which way it will play out. Hopefully they have that settled by the June meeting.
