That prompted me to look for confirming articles, and I also could not find any. Lots of links to Islamic dress codes, mostly as applied to females. But none that I could find about minorities having to wear badges.

I guess I should have checked before posting that. If not true, this will die a silent death and your conclusion may well be correct.
