Rush does not drive lefties crazy, he disgusts them, then motivates them. He makes them outraged enough to commit themselves to standing up to dishonest blowhards like Rush, and to fight to take their country back from the crooks and liars. It makes patriotic warriors out of liberals. I am always surprised how the rightwing seems to love their liars. The more a rightwing pundit or politician lies , the more popular he/she is. Anne Coulter and Michael Savage are ridiculously inaccurate and delusional. Rush and Hannity are very clever, slick propagandists who continually lie and tiwst the facts. They admit the truth only on very rare occasions. For instance, when Hannity saw Kerry leading in the exit polls on election eve 2004, he conceded Kerry had won and admitted Kerry wouldn't be so bad after all. That was before GW's second "miraculous" last minute come from behind "victory" in a row.

"I haven't heard him espouse anything but conservative positions." Rush is sometimes to the left of me and sometimes to the right. There are many people that seem to always end up on the right of me. Political tests seem to place me as a moderate to conservative. If I am a moderate and Rush is espousing things on air that are more moderate than my beliefs maybe they are always the issues I am more conservative on, or more likely, he espouses some moderate points.
