In reply to several messages... People have been speculating on the Probablity that DELL will announce adoption of K8L [Edit: AM2] in the next couple of weeks. You responded with a 0%, probably correct. What is the probability that DELL actually ships a 4P Opteron by end of year? Not 100%. If Woodcrest's FP performance is up to what is rumored theinquirer.net, I can see a scenario where in the 4Q DELL either cancels the 4P Opteron server or EOL's it. They will say, "We can cover all segments of customer demand with INTC only again and it simplifies our operations." They might even make a case that a 2S Woodcrest delivers 80-100% throughput of a 4P Opteron on some workload, so the "hole" in their line-up goes away. DELL will have bought time with their Opteron Diversion, remain in INTC's good graces, and stuck a knife into AMD all in one stroke. You think AMD went up with DELL's acceptance? Wait till the day DELL drops AMD. I hope the news from AMD between now and June 10 is good. I'm still very long and I'd like to stay long for Long Term Gains. But I'm in the mood to sell at the right price between now and fall. I got into AMD a couple of years ago because I thought that AMD had a better chance of doubling than did INTC. It did.
