Yes. The BIGGEST danger for Intel is that they loose the final element in the PERCEPTION war.

Yes. 4 way and above may be <1% of Dell's revenues- but Dell is only 18% of world wide unit shipments of x86 computers.

This PR BOOST that Dell has given AMD is worth more than 500 MILLION in advertising that AMD could have spent themselves.

It's FANTASTIC.

Not only with IBM feel the pressure to up the ante in Opteron servers but so will Toshiba, Sony etc. etc. etc.

The leverage effect will be huge.

AMD with less than 25% of the x86 market in total will easily make headway in the 80+% of the market that does not care one iota about the top performance of the chips. That market just wants chips that work.

Plus Intel's chip will be capped on the upper end by 8xx Opteron's while AMD makes the margins on the server chips at HP, IBM, SUNW, Fujitsu-Seimens etc.

I can easily see AMD capturing and KEEPING 30%+ of the server maket that will keep it in the game PROFITABLY till K8L and beyond.
