Just because P4 can beat Athlon 64 in a few benchmarks doesn't mean P4 is viewed as an equal or a close competitor to Athlon 64 in terms of performance.

Well said. AMD should forget about the 4MB Conroes with their sub 3 GHz 90nm K8s and go after the bulk of Intel's range, P-Ds, aggressively with severe price cuts. They could do some damage there ;-).

eracer, It will be similar to the Athlon 64/P4 situation now. Just because P4 can beat Athlon 64 in a few benchmarks doesn't mean P4 is viewed as an equal or a close competitor to Athlon 64 in terms of performance.

Sort of. The P4 was a successful product at launch. The buyers at that time accepted Intel's smoke and mirrors. There is quite a population of consumers that got educated. AMD has a strong bond with consumers.

I'd bet that Conro is comparable in real world situations. With the large cache, the die is bigger? Who knows about the bigger picture, yields, etc.

Take a step back, AMD was Pinochio, a wooden boy. Not any more. The industry has partnered up to AMD, while Intel was busy trying to set standards to coerce and extend their monopoly. Times change.
