i think 2 MB Conroe's will do well as well. The other big contributor to performance is out of order loads and that will stay.

BTW, the out of order loads especially help in 32 bit apps, where there are more of them. In 64 bit apps they still help, but availability of 16 bit registers reduces the number of load and stores, since more of the values stay in registers.

It is really the stores that screw up the performance, because apparently K8 can load data ahead of time, as long as there is no store before load. Extra registers reduce the number of stores.

So, if Conroe has a lead in a particular app over K8, it will have a lower lead running 4 bit equivalent of the app (or OS).
