I think the quality issue is starting to become a factor...I remember reading Dell's official statement on the release..."We will sell the best quality...if AMD presents new technology soon that impresses everyone they will have an out from Intel...if it doesn't impress Dell they stay with Intel with the vast majority of their products...this could be fun; STAY TUNED...;>)

Re: Before Dell's announcement I have posted a probable, IMHO, scenario where dell would adopt AMD on a very limited basis just to drop amd with some nasty negative comments later. It would be a signifact blow to AMD even though the revenue involved is not that significant.

If you are confident in AMD's roadmap then this shouldn't worry you. If AMD manages to maintain the same type of performance lead it has today over the next couple of years AMD will own the 4-way segment and Dell dropping AMD would only be seen as a negative to Dell.

I'd be more concerned about the effect NGA will have on current AMD partners. What if Sun decides to adopt Woodcrest? Sun has been a huge mouthpiece for AMD. If they were to adopt Intel processors in the 2S space it would be seen as a pretty big negative even though the volumes of CPUs involved aren't huge. What if Dell makes a market share comeback against HP with NGA and the HP-AMD success stories become fewer and further between? What if high-end desktop makers like Voodoo PC and Alienware are primarily selling Intel desktops instead of AMD ones by the end of the year?
