When the last big wave of immigrants came here, TV did not exist and radios still were not that plentiful. Most of the newcomers clustered in their own little communities and felt comfortable living among extended family with their native culture and language. I know.....I came from such a community... In the larger cities, this type of community is still very common. Some of the older adults never learn to speak English probably because they rarely leave the neighborhood. But all of the kids who go to school assimilate very nicely.
