It is not a level playing field in radio. The rightwing dominates, and not because the audience wants them to. That is a rightwing myth. The real reason is control of corporate radio power. Clear Channel alone gives them that advantage.

You saw this when the Dixie Chicks spoke out against Bush (and rightfully so). They were banned from almost all radio play across the country. That proves it right there.

Similarly, Air America had a very hard time getting air-time anywhere. The rightwing radio forces work very actively to keep them out. Even though rightwing radio hosts control 95% of the market and the public desperately wants balance, other voices and to hear the unvarished truth once in awhile.

The rightwing knows what this is all about. They own radio and are going to do everything to keep that advantage, even if it means trying to sabotage Air America and other diverse voices. It is their way to try to replace news with propaganda, as many people don't have time to read newspapers and get their news from radio. But Hannity and Limbaugh are not news or even information, they are strictly propaganda, and always distort the truth through the rightwing prism.
