We had the stricter building codes not too long after Andrew in 1992 and many areas farther north and inland didn't put in the stricter codes required in the coastal areas of the southern part of the state. I remember even around 1997 or so they were building in Central Florida for half what it costs them now.

I checked several markets in your area. Tough to find many new 2k sf homes for under $200k anywhere in NC.. But that seems pretty much universal. Then I see Indianapolis and the Texas markets and just wonder<g>
