Parallels Workstation presents a window that looks just like any PC. It emulates whatever hardware environment is needed to install Windows (or whatever other OS you want to install).

This hardware environment includes a VGA screen which converts to the default screen size once Windows goes into graphics mode, a floppy drive, up to 4 CD-ROM drives, a network interface (both wired and wireless), keyboard and mouse at a minimum. Both the floppy and CD-ROM can load an ISO compatible disk image rather than an actual disk. It is easy to create an ISO compatible image from any CD-ROM that you load into the Mac Drive from OS X.

By the way, windows install under Parallels workstation takes about 15 minutes.
