Without any reference to past year's data or which quarters normally see rises in inventories, this press release is almost useless, imo.

Chip inventories rose 7% in first quarter, says brokerage

Broken down by category, the largest quarterly increase in the first quarter was for photography and imaging chips, which rose 12 days to 68 days of inventory (DOI).
This appears an odd way to describe a NAND flash chip but according to Samsung NAND flash inventory correction was completed in Q2 2006
