To think that life is meaningless because we die is nihilism not self awareness. As I understand it, nihilism is the philosophy that it is only our awareness that exists. It doesn't in itself attach any meaning to the awareness. I'm not discussing nihilism but rather somewhat of a reverse, that our awareness itself is not very meaningful. I wonder if self-awareness is not one of those cases of evolutionary over-specialization that ends up hurting a species in the long run. TP
