I bought a house in Oceanside, S. Cal. in 1993. In 1995, I got a job offer in PA that was good enough that I wanted to move, and accepted contingent on me selling my house. It was on the market a year, during which TWO people looked at it. No offers were proffered.

I sold the same house in 2003 for five times it's mortgage value, in two weeks, for my asking price.

Yup. And the market wasn't as bad in San Diego/North County/Oceanside as it was in LA. It was bad enough but LA was a couple of levels lower.
