that is a characrterization of Gore's remarks by Heilemann

I've seen the messianic gleam in his eye, myself. That's why I mentioned upthread that I thought he had gotten too weird, at least I think I mentioned that.

Obviously they weren't Gore's remarks, but the characterization is an apt description of something I have come to loathe, the politicians who talk down to us and tell us what's important why we should sign up for their righteous crusade. Bush says we have to cut taxes and fight terrorists and (implicitly) put aside pretty much everything else as a priority. Gore is making big noises about an environmental trend that is probably a serious issue but far from 100% proven or clear.

More important, Gore's agenda doesn't focus on ASKING the centrist voter what they want and need right now. I'd like to find a candidate who was more interested in meeting people's needs and addressing people's concerns instead of waving their banners in my face and expecting me to stand up and cheer. Poor Bush can't figure out why the people who used to like him think he is out of touch and going in the wrong direction. When does he ever interact with the voters he lost and communicate with them instead of just "staying on message"?

Just my personal reaction to the latest Gore show. I never liked the guy that much in the first place, I will also admit. I stand by my view that the Dems will do better not to nominate anyone named Clinton/Kerry/Gore in 2008.

I saw the previews for Gore's new movie last night. He's just as icky as ever -- that's my personal, idiosyncratic, knee-jerk irrational reaction.

Visually, he appears to be positioning himself as some sort of Second Coming. Second Coming of Gore for President, at a minimum.

The before and after photos of various glaciers are pretty interesting. I'd probably enjoy this more in illustrated book form.

Edit: blaming the Katrina catastrophe on global warming was pretty low and illustrates my difficulties with Gore. Katrina's destruction was the result of a lot of human errors but not global warming.
