If you're saying there's no truth in fiction or movies and they have no influence on people, I'd say you are in a distinct minority.

Context matters... Remember, these are fictional books and movies.

The contexts of these messages claiming the truth of the underlying events are OUTSIDE the context of the narrative. We have been trained that the convention is when an author or director presents information in this context, he is giving you true information he thinks you need to better understand the fiction that follows. A lot of folks think that convention still stands.

I guess the convention today is, at least if it comes from Big Media, don't believe it.
