JF, Single payer, universal health care is CHEAPER.

Very debatable, especially given the problems with health care today. But either way, it would have represented the biggest increase in federal spending yet.

You could argue that the returns aren't quantifyable in budget dollars, but then you could say the exact same thing about all of the increased spending under the Bush administration.
