I've heard a quote contributed to Thomas Dewey on why he didn't use a more negative approach in the 1944 presidential race...It went something like: "I'd prefer to win the war and lose the election, than the other way around". It's painfully clear that there are damn few Dewey's around these days.

Further evidence that he was a rare politician:

He was regarded as an honest and efficient governor. He cut taxes, doubled state aid to education, increased salaries for state employees, and reduced the state's debt by over $100 million. Additionally, he put through the first state law in the country which prohibited racial discrimination in employment. As governor, Dewey also signed legislation that created the State University of New York.

You and I are pretty much in agreement then.

I object to warrantless wiretapping. I agree the database is not wiretapping and does not violate any constitutional rights any more than the US Postal service delivering my mail violates any rights. If the govt makes a case that the database is helpful, then there should be no real objection on constitutional grounds.

Nice discussing the issues with you. Display the flag, contemplate the reason for Memorial Day and enjoy the holiday. I'm out of town for the next ten days or so...
