Fox is a conservative in mexican politics. There is an election campaign underway to succeed Fox. The conservatvies have just pulled even according to todays NYTimes. Whats the alternative--left wing chavezites??? NAFTA and Immigration are safety valves for the mexican economy or lack thereof. Its no different than the flow of funds into the US which are the result of the trade deficits. Its the price we pay to maintain our standard of living. Is this sustainable? Probably not. Should we clamp down on deficits and immigrants right now big time? Probably not if we want to avoid economic disruption at home and left wing takeovers in mexico. None of this stuff we pontificate about doing on this thread is without consequences. Use force only on immigrants and you have the chavez cancer spreading northward.
