If FB-DIMM is the limiting factor here then it seems to me that Intel made a big mistake backing FB-DIMM only for Woodcrest. Performance looks horrid, prices are still relatively high, and they erase Woodcrest's power consumption advantage which will be a negative in blades and in servers with large amounts of FB-DIMM memory.

the point that i believe that you and a lot of others here are missing is that with the changes in the rules of engagement and in the collective perception of AMD's stature relative to intel; AMD no longer has to be way ahead of intel in order to be dramatically catching up....it really, really, really is truly different this time...AND AMD HAS A REALLY LARGE WELL FUNDED RESEARCH BUDGET TO BOOT :)))
