And maybe after two more world wars the ME will become a thriving democracy. Sound like you have a plan. Que Sera, Sera... I hope that's not what it takes, but we all know that the Germans and Japanese are pretty hard headed (and proud) peoples. I believe we must offer them the "carrot" (entree into the family of democratic, peace-loving, nations), but I'm keeping the "stick" handy just in case they CHOOSE to mistake my generousity as weakness. But I don't see you making any alternative proposals as to how to deal with such situations. Your analysis is about as sound as it is for the ancient Roman city And your alternative explanation IS???
