Also all of that relies on educated guesses and applying basic economic ideas to the situation, but its not like I've conducted, or even read in detail, a study of the economic effects of immigration.

By all accounts from people (economists like Paul Krugman etc) who actually look at the numbers, it is too close to call.

Whether the actual benefit to our society is plus or minus 10 percent does not really matter.

What matters are all the intangibles. The most important intangible in my estimation, is how it reveals our own character and sense of values. To treat poorly, people who want to come here to make small wages, to do humble work - says more about us than anything else.

If things were reversed, I would not see anything wrong for any of us to go to Mexico (legally or illegally) to earn enough to feed our families by seeking honest work. I do not see that as a crime.
