ElM, life has been going for 20,000 years in the human realm and "the wealth" hasn't yet spread evenly and MDCs have never yet reduced to their "natural" size. There doesn't seem to be a limit to wealth or "natural size".

Countries and empires have had various life cycles of varying wealth. Some have lasted for 000s of years, some not long at all [the 1000 year third reich for example was over before it really got going].

I don't think you should expect to see wealth spread more evenly though as always it will flow from high voltage to lower voltage.

Wealth is a function of good political sense. Which comes and goes. As a sense of entitlement takes over, dissolute wastrel behaviour takes off. It seems tough to maintain high political standards for many generations.
