I have often marveled at what passed for intelligence in Texas.

The safest course for you is to do what you are doing, pass on investing in the oil sands.

Unless you are prepared to provide a serious argument that the sands are uneconomic, instead of citing anonymous sources, you are probably wasting your breath.

T. Boone Pickens is a major player in the oil sands, but it is probably unfair to attach names to your "experts".....

You can get the numbers according for one oil sands producer here:

syncrude.ca (see Sustainability Report)

including costs, environmental impact, netback per barrel, etc. The numbers are pretty good at current oil prices. Evidently the amount of natural gas BTUs needed per barrel of syncrude is a lot less than the BTUs in that barrel.

The only fly in the ointment for oil sands is the possibility that we are not at or near peak oil, and if during the next recession there is another oil price plunge.
