Metal Price Forecast Is Raised by HSBC After Speculative Buying
2006-05-24 11:21 (New York)

By Simon Casey
May 24 (Bloomberg) -- HSBC Holdings Plc, Europe's largest
bank by market value, raised its price forecasts for metals
including copper and aluminum after speculative investors
increased their holdings.
HSBC increased its average price forecast for copper in
2006 by 40 percent to $2.80 a pound, analysts led by Paul
McTaggart said today in an e-mailed report. The London-based
bank raised its aluminum forecast 21 percent to $1.21 a pound,
zinc 28 percent to $1.18 a pound and platinum 15 percent $1,141
an ounce.
``High metal prices reflect ongoing inflows of speculative
money,'' the analysts said.
