Maybe so, but if Al Gore believes it, why does he travel short distances in motorcades of huge SUVs?

It may be illogical to blame the messenger but he's just the wrong messenger.

the last 1000 years show a clear warming pattern

1000 years ago in Iceland the most important food crop was wheat, which grew there easily.

They haven't been able to grow wheat in Iceland for hundreds of years.

With the present warming trend they can grow barley and hope to be able to grow wheat again someday.

re: "showing acceleration in the trend- and the last ~30 showing a dramatic acceleration (dramatic as far as climatologists are concerned- not dramatic to anyone else)."

Actually, in the past few years (since 1998) there has been a flattening not acceleration of mean yearly temperature increases in the Northern Hemisphere. So there were roughly 20 years of rapidly increasing global mean temperatures followed by 7 years of plateaued mean global temperatures. Also there is conflicting evidence about temperatures during the Medieval Warm Period - some saying that it was not so warm, some saying that it was probably warmer than today.

Of course that doesn't change the fact that the earth generally has been getting warmer.
