Stan...you really can't say his life was well documented because there are NO known writings that were done during his actual lifetime.

Christianity was in existence before Paul started writing and evangelizing, but it was pretty much a sect of Judaism and might very well have remained so if Paul had not recruited Gentiles and eliminated the rules that kept the two religions so tightly bound. Like the dietary requirements and especially the circumcision requirement.

Paul "says" he met Jesus, how do we verify something like that? Pat Robertson makes tsunami predictions because he says he hears from God, but I'm skeptical of him. John Smith talked to God I think. He created a whole new "sect" of Christianity, called Mormon....is he right?

Much of Jesus' life is documented, not obscure.

The "documentation" of the life of Jesus you are talking about represents a span of only 2 1/2 to 3yrs and took place over not much more than the small area of a small 15mi triangle . This country preacher probably spent much time in the mothers house of the fisherman Peter up to the north near to where the sermon of the Mt was given . The time and events represented in the Gospels is very limited by any standard .

What is historical about that time is there were many named "Jesus" that were crucified by the Romans. Two of which were priests in the Great Temple itself. One who was leading a pacifist movement up in the north and there were many more . Whether to cast stones and raise swords against the Romans ...to revolt and invite the wrath of the Caesars or avoid total destruction & enslavement , was very much on the minds of the Hebrew tribes at the time . Martyrdom , revolt and the belief in the "end of times" was rampant . There very well may have been one called Jesus (probably many) & certainly there was the great sage scholar Rabbai Hillel and a few others that were attempting to be peacemakers . The name Jesus was so popular to the extent that every tribe had numerous sons bearing the name of Moses' brother .
