UpNDawn,

Would you think that Dell's move to offer the 4P Opteron (surely this is 4S/8P right now, right?) is going to increase the pressure on IBM to have something to counter?

IBM's VP of the group in charge of that (Systems & Technology Group), Zeitler, has said in a recent interview that he is aware of the market share that HP and Sun have gained by using Opteron, more than IBM had. As far as what he is going to do about it, we will just have to wait and see.

Something that I haven't seen discussed here is that just as Dell was forced to go with Opteron for multiprocessor servers, I can't see how Sun will not be forced to add Woodcrest to their one and two socket server line up.

Pravin.
